Print Tech Advancements at HP

RISMEDIA, June 10 — HP has introduced the HP Color LaserJet 4600 printer, offering customers industry-leading color laser technology with breakthrough performance, ease-of-use and output quality.

Designed to meet the high-volume, high-quality color printing needs of any size business, the aggressively priced HP Color LaserJet 4600 is the first printer to use HP’s in-line technology.

Four front-loading print cartridges are stacked one on top of the other, delivering color to several types of media in a single pass. The result is four times the print speed of its predecessor product, which required a separate pass for each of the cyan, yellow, magenta and black colors.

With color documents becoming a vital component in today’s workplace, advertising and graphic design agency Oliver, Russell and Associates began using the HP Color LaserJet 4600 as their office network printer.

“Color is really critical to us,” says Kristy Weyhrich, design director at Oliver, Russell and Associates. “With the HP Color LaserJet 4600, we get prints just as fast in color as we do in black in white. A job that previously would have taken 30 minutes now takes only 10.”

The HP Color LaserJet 4600 prints letter-size documents at 17 pages per minute in both color and monochrome. A new 400 MHz processor and industry-leading standard memory configurations that are expandable to 416 MB help ensure the printer performs at its full potential at all times.

Innovative firmware and hardware enhancements also reduce forced calibrations, maximizing printer uptime. Additionally, an inductive heat fuser enables quick printing starting with the first page out of the device.

In addition to significant speed increases, the HP Color LaserJet 4600 printer exhibits outstanding print image quality.

“HP has developed several unique algorithms which, when combined with HP supplies, provide superior print quality,” says Dave Johnson, color and imaging science manager, HP Imaging and Printing Group. “The result is crisper text and detailed graphics that set us apart from the competition.”

Specific technological advancements from HP to enhance output quality include:

Trapping technology, which greatly reduces the effects of misaligned colors, preventing the white from the paper appearing in between the color text and graphics;

Edge control features, which smooth the jagged edges often seen on medium-colored text and graphics; and

Improved, chemically grown toner and contact development, which ensures accurate and consistent print quality. In addition, fewer supplies are needed because HP’s toner uses a fuser release agent in each toner particle rather than separate fusing oil. This decreases the mechanical complexity of the system and eliminates the risk of oil contamination.

In addition, with genuine HP Smart Print Cartridges, dynamic electrophotographic adjustments are made throughout cartridge life, ensuring consistent print quality.(1)

The HP Color LaserJet 4600 printer is also extremely easy to use. The control panel displays text, supplies status gauges and animated graphics simultaneously with an intuitive user interface.(1) A front access panel also provides an easy way to replace supplies and troubleshoot while at the same time minimizing the workspace needed to interact with the printer.

E-Services

For information technology managers, the HP Color LaserJet 4600 printer includes an embedded Web server that allows remote device management from a standard Web browser or through the installation of HP Webjet Admin. Internet-enabled supplies ordering from the printer and job accounting are just a few of the services available.

Third-party e-services are also an option, offering secure document delivery via the Internet, online video presentations for easy printer maintenance, automatic printing capabilities and more.

HP Color LaserJet 4600 printers are expected to be available in North America this month and worldwide in July.
