A series of six wine tasting fundraisers held in Connecticut and Boston
RISMEDIA, Nov. 10 ? A series of six wine tasting fundraisers held in Connecticut and Boston were sponsored by William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services and raised more than $200,000 for breast cancer research and support for breast cancer patients.

The events, Wines and Foods of the World, raised funds through event ticket sales as well as live and silent auctions featuring a host of luxury auction items such as furs, jewelry, oriental and eastern rugs, artwork, domestic and overseas getaways and sporting tickets that were donated by area merchants. Wine distributors, caterers and restaurants donated their time, food and refreshments. The events were held in September and October and attracted more than 2,000 bidders and supporters.

?We are overwhelmed with our community?s commitment to our fundraising events.? noted William Raveis, chairman and CEO. ?We are committed to support communities with our charitable contributions and actions. This series of events to help fight breast cancer is our largest effort, and was companywide in its focus. We are hopeful that, through efforts such as these from us and many other organizations as well, that one day, breast cancer will become a thing of the past.?

Proceeds raised will benefit the Breast Cancer Alliance in Greenwich, the Dana Farber Women?s Cancer Center in Boston and the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut Breast Cancer Center in Farmington. The fund will be administered through William Raveis? non-profit foundation, the William Raveis Charitable Fund Inc. and the William Raveis Breast Cancer Research Fund.

The fundraisers were the brainchild of William Raveis President Carolyn Deal, who is a breast cancer survivor. ?Breast cancer is such a devastating disease, not just for women who are diagnosed with the disease, but for their spouses and children as well,? she stated. ?Hopefully our fundraising efforts will help in accelerating the discovery of a cure.?
