13 Points You Need to Confirm Before You Begin Recruiting
By Upward Motion

RISMEDIA, March 16 ? Are your agents leaving you before you can get a good return on the investment you?ve made in attracting, selecting and training them? Are the people you?ve interviewed choosing to join your competitors?

If you?ve answered ?yes? to either of these questions, you might be tempted to step up your recruiting efforts. But, chances are, you should stop and rethink your recruiting! You?re experiencing symptoms of something that could be more serious.

Brokers who run cost-effective recruiting campaigns, regardless of the number of agents they currently have or are hoping to hire, typically have a number of critical items in place before they recruit. You can apply their lessons if you can confidently confirm most of the following statements about your recruits, about yourself and about your future.

Knowing Your Recruits

1. I know where the recruits who I want ?hang-out?.

2. I know how to effectively get the attention of those recruits I want.

3. I understand what recruits want from me during the recruiting process.

4. I know what recruits expect from me when they join my firm.

5. I have the time, people and technology to keep in-touch with potential recruits.

Knowing Yourself

6. I can distinguish myself from my competitors in ways that matter to recruits.

7. I know what makes recruits successful in my firm.

8. I understand what makes a recruit unsuccessful in my firm.

9. I can cost-effectively screen recruits.

10. I know my average overhead cost per agent.

11. I know how much it costs me to hire an agent.

Knowing Where You?re Going

12. I have set specific recruiting targets.

13. I have allocated an appropriate recruiting budget.

Of course, you can grow your knowledge and capacity while you?re recruiting. In fact, that?s the way that many of today?s broker/owners have built successful campaigns. But, keep in-mind that if you can use tools that help you to apply these ?best practices?, you?ll have an edge on your competitors right out of the gate.
