He was the only winner in the real estate category, competing against two others in the upstate New York-Pennsylvania region
RISMEDIA, June 23, 2006?(KRT)?The Ernst & Young accounting firm commended the owner of the expanding local real estate firm — RealtyUSA — with an entrepreneurship award given at a Friday dinner in Pittsburgh.
Merle Whitehead, Realty USA president and CEO, was among seven regional winners of the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award. He was the only winner in the real estate category, competing against two others in the upstate New York-Pennsylvania region, said Mave Milligan, director of corporate relations for RealtyUSA.
Whitehead, 52, started selling real estate when he was 18, she said. He went on to become partner at Potter Realtors, which merged with Stovroff & Herman in 1996. Four years later he bought out the other three partners.
After he took over, Whitehead bought the Albany firm RealtyUSA and grew his real estate sales company from 18 offices in the Buffalo-Niagara region to its current total of 59 offices throughout upstate New York. RealtyUSA also has an office in Naples, Fla.
“There are more on the way,” said Milligan. “There’s no limit.”
