Blogging Systems helps broker/owner create blog for ?community open house?
In a time where some believe that the Internet and e-mail have contributed to a lack of social interaction and community, Broker/owner David Crockett is using that technology to bring it back.
Crockett, of The Crockett Team with Howard Hanna Smythe Cramer Realtors, in Lake County, Ohio, has created a first-of-its-kind online community (www.lakecountyblog.com) in which all local organizations can post news and information?at no cost.
?I’ve always thought blogging was an interesting technology and a great way to interact with people,’ says Crockett. However, blogs typically require a lot of writing, and so if you want people to read it, you’re going to have to figure out a way to promote it. I thought that if we could build an online community where all blogs would launch from the same site, that would be key.
So, Crockett began researching and soon came upon Blogging Systems.
?They were great; they caught on right away to what I wanted to do,? he says. In fact, they designed and built a new system just for us. So now, we have what we wanted?we?ve created a watering hole for community information.
The site that Blogging Systems created for Crockett?s group includes blogs from many different groups and organizations, ranging from local chambers of commerce and parks systems to the United Way. What’s more, Crockett provides a daily lead story as well as anything else he thinks may be of interest to readers.
?With the formation of this site, I finally figured out how to contribute to my community,? he says. I wanted to give them something that didn?t cost anything. This allows me to help and do something great for the community.?
According to Crockett, the site has become a central place for groups to promote their events. In fact, some of the groups are cross-promoting each other’s events, which, he says, is creating even more of a buzz.
?Although the site has only been up for a few months, it’s become very popular,? he says. In fact, some of the organizations are seeing so much traffic that they are considering getting rid of their printed newsletters in favor of using the community calendar and their individual blogs.
?What’s great is that these organizations promote all of the site?s information to each other’s members,? Crockett continues. They find it so beneficial and useful because the information is up to the minute?it just pops out at you.
?Once people saw the demo (which Crockett created through PowerPoint), they began to see the magic of what we had done,? he adds.
What’s more, Crockett says that much of the site?s success is due to how user-friendly Blogging Systems has made it.
?Once they built the system and I learned how easy it was to use, through Blogging Systems? direction, I was able to create my own operations, manual for the organizations to use,? he explains.
From his company?s point of view, the blogging site has been very beneficial as well. We’re essentially hosting a 24/7 communications network,? he says. Every page on the site has my company?s two icons. We are definitely seeing more hits on our sites.
?I really view the blogging site as a gigantic open house,? Crockett continues. You can walk into any of the rooms to see what’s going on. You can comment or sit and listen. Plus, it’s always open.?
