‘Seismic Change’
‘Seismic Change’

Last month, you may have been among those industry leaders who joined us at RISMedia?s First Annual CEO Exchange held at Dave and Gail Liniger?s spectacular Sanctuary Golf Course and Clubhouse in Sedalia, Colorado. A special thanks to the Linigers and the RE/MAX team for their magnanimous hospitality. Thanks also to all those in attendance for taking time from their other priorities to participate in what Ed Krafchow described as a meeting that could spark ?seismic change.?

Several things set the CEO Exchange apart from other industry meetings (a critical goal of ours from the onset because, after all, what the industry does not need more of is rhetoric): a very selective guest list of just 100 of real estate?s top minds among the brokerage and service provider camps; an open and honest flow of discussion with a willingness to broach tough issues; and a truly interactive format where speakers and panelists engaged with attendees to get to the root of issues, not just skim the surface.

And outspoken ideas and thoughts on tough issues is exactly what took place at the CEO Exchange. From a candid look at how today?s consumer demographics will necessitate change in the marketing and sales of real estate, to how acquisitions might one day come from the likes of Priceline or Home Depot, the CEO Exchange forced us to look at the reality of today?s real estate market and what we, as leaders, will need to focus on to nurture change and protect profitability. Find our first in a series of articles on discussions held at the CEO Exchange on page 98.

This month?s cover story on HSA Home Warranty tackles the very topic of such change. In the recent release of its Master Agent program, HSA is making a bold step to evolve the relationships its representatives have with real estate professionals. Sensing the ?seismic change? taking place within today?s consumer groups, HSA believes that home warranties will serve as an important relationship-building tool for agents. Learn more about their game plan beginning on page 124.

RISMedia will continue to promote industry advancement through its publications and events such as the CEO Exchange. This month?s Leadership Conference, September 27 and 28 at New York City?s Roosevelt Hotel, is no exception. We look forward to seeing you there and thank you for taking part in these critical educational forums that will collectively move this industry forward.

Wishing you continued success,

John E. Featherston
