RISMEDIA, October 23, 2006?JoAnne Poole, chair of the Federal Housing Policy committee of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), has been named a board member of the Campaign for Affordable Housing, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to dispelling myths about affordable housing and why it is good for communities. Poole brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in that arena as a leader in the real estate industry for 20 years.

Currently the principal of Poole Realty in Glen Burnie, Maryland, she also serves on the National Association of Realtors® Public Policy committee; and she is a member of the Housing Opportunity Advisory Board. In 2005, Poole was president of the Maryland Association of Realtors.

?I am a strong advocate of a wide range of housing opportunities for people, including those with modest incomes,’ says Poole, who also served on the Housing Maryland Coalition, a group working on the growing affordability issue in both the rental and homeownership sectors in Maryland.

?Unfortunately, average housing prices in most areas of the country have risen much higher than average salaries,? said Poole. That blocks literally millions of Americans out of the opportunity to reach the American dream of homeownership. The Campaign for Affordable Housing is doing something positive about that by teaching developers and advocates how to talk with community groups and the media in ways that demonstrate to them what attainable housing looks like and who it really helps.

Along with being a member of NAR, Poole is a member of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers and the Women’s Council of Realtors. She served as president for both her state and local boards and was part of NAR’s Equal Opportunity Cultural Diversity committee for seven years.

?The Campaign is proud to have board members who have practical experience in housing,’ says Charles Edson, Esq., chair of the Campaign for Affordable Housing Board. We come from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Our expertise is in law, housing development, finance, policy, and other arenas. Having JoAnne Poole, a leader in the real estate industry, join us, is a real plus.

The Campaign for Affordable Housing is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to dispelling the negative stereotypes surrounding affordable housing. Supported by a wide range of industry leaders, The Campaign for Affordable Housing promotes the benefits of affordable housing and acts as a clearinghouse for local and regional organizations.
