Don’t let your garage become ?the final frontier of junk? ? How to use garage space wisely

Print Article Print Article

RISMEDIA, April 10, 2007- The National Association of Home Builders found that 64% of new home buyers say they do not have adequate storage space. With 1.5 million new garages being built every year, one way to differentiate your home in the market is to have a custom designed garage.

The garage is often one of the biggest shared spaces in the home full of livable and useable square footage. Unfortunately many homeowners are at a loss for how to best utilize the space appropriately. The garage often becomes "the final frontier for junk."

Below you will find a few simple tips for making the garage a clean and safe space for your family. In the coming days, I'd love to set you up with a phone interview with Gladiator GarageWorks Senior Marketing Manager and Whirlpool's ultimate garage organization expert, Michele Savalox.

In addition to these helpful tips, she is also available to discuss how innovative organizational products like Gladiator GarageWorks are revolutionizing the finished garage and making it the stylish new place to be in the home.

1. Clear the Floor
An easy way to clear the clutter in the garage is to get the items off the floor and onto the walls. By installing shelves, baskets, hooks or cabinets you can uncover valuable space on the garage floor which can be used for working on hobbies or parking your car.

2. Consolidate
Get rid of the things you don't use by throwing them away, recycling them, giving them to the local charities or selling them online. The rollerblades that have been sitting there since the early nineties, old tires and half used paint, car and lawn supplies are often a few culprits of the cluttered garage.

3. Categorize
Put like items together such as tools, sporting equipment, gardening equipment and holiday decorations. Once you have everything grouped you can assign certain cabinets, bins, hooks, baskets and shelves for each category based on frequency of use.

4. Be Safe
The garage is a place where the family gathers, children play and pets wander. Make sure this area is safe by storing chemicals and sharp or dangerous items on high shelves or inside locked cabinets. Gladiator GarageWorks offers products that create a safe environment for all family members to enjoy. The GearTrackTM Channels and GearWallTM Panels are the only UL Classified extruded slot wall products for residential use on the market

5. Decorate
The garage does not have to be the eye sore of the house. You decorate every room in your home, so why not your garage? This is an area that has been neglected for years and is now becoming the trendy place to hang out. With Gladiator GarageWorks stylish steel tread plate finish design, you too can be the envy of your neighbors with matching cabinets, flooring and workbenches.
