Training & Business Development: New Licensing Requirements Available Online

Print Article Print Article

RISMEDIA, May 9, 2007-California is raising the bar, so to speak, when licensing requirements for sales agents will be increasing on September 30th of this year. Those applying for licensing after that date will be required to complete 135 hours prior to taking the state exam rather than the 45 hours + two course requirement in effect prior to that date. California also has, as of July 1, 2007, added the continuing education requirement of completing a “risk management course.”

To accommodate this and other changes to pre-licensing and continuing education requirements in California, Oregon, Nevada, Washington, Tennessee and Illinois, RealtyU announced that its was adding 87 new real estate courses to its online distance learning portal RealtyU Online.

A listing of all real estate licensing and CE courses in these 6 states now totals over 126:

California 4 licensing courses & exam prep, 15 CE courses and packages
Oregon 10 licensing courses and modules & exam prep, 35 CE courses
Nevada Pre-license course & exam prep, 14 CE courses
Washington 4 licensing courses & exam prep, 12 CE courses
Tennessee Affiliate Broker Pre-license, 13 CE courses & packages
Illinois 7 Pre-licensing, Broker Pre-license and & exam prep, 12 CE courses & packages

Thomas Mitchell, senior vice president of RealtyU praised two of its key course providers OnlineEd and Thomson-CompuTaught that have moved so quickly to create new courses and update other materials so that they could be ready to meet the new requirements.

“Already the number of inquiries for these new courses has increased significantly during the last month,” Mitchell said as many agents wish to prepare themselves in advance of the new regulations.

According to Mitchell, in today’s declining and increasingly competitive market, real estate professionals should be much more concerned with career advancement than in years past.

“Being able to improve your personal knowledge and skill set quickly, in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace via the Internet,” says Mitchell, “has made it much easier than before and has removed many of the obstacles.”

All these online courses are also offered in the “Mastery and Fluency” method that incorporates the presentation of the material to be learned, adequate explanation to ensure the student understands what is presented and the opportunity for the student to demonstrate that understanding through active participation in the learning process.

“Real estate agents now truly have the tools readily available to enhance their level of professionalism,” Mitchell said.
