From Top Journalist to Successful Realtor to TV Star

Print Article Print Article

RISMEDIA, May 30, 2007-How does a film and theatre critic, TV columnist and editor, and managing editor for features and entertainment at a large daily newspaper over a 23 year career in journalism transition to becoming a top Realtor in one of the toughest markets in the US? New Jersey’s Roberta Baldwin said she saw the writing on the wall relative to the health of the printed word, especially newspapers.

Baldwin wanted to run her own business so she researched various real estate franchises, and explored the real estate profession altogether. She was used to working seven days a week as a journalist, so the pressures of real estate were not a surprise to her, she said.

Over the past decade plus, Baldwin has become one of Essex County’s most respected real estate professionals, often quoted in the national media and, in 2007, a featured Realtor on the HGTV show “Bought & Sold.” In 2006, The Baldwin Dream Team ranked among the top two producers in RE/MAX Village Square’s five-office network and nationally at the coveted Chairman’s Club service level. The Baldwin Team was also ranked among the Top 5 RE/MAX teams statewide in sales for 2006.

So how did Roberta master the Internet as an online real estate business? Simple, with her background she knew that she wanted her Web presence to be like an online magazine. Plus she knew that 80% + of the new business is coming from the ‘net. She attracts her prospective clients with her “magazine-like” Web site and serves as a relaxed and sophisticated source of all kinds of valuable information. She likes people to browse her offerings and like any “Internet empowered consumer” she lets them respond when they are ready. Baldwin has also found it works to be active in the blogosphere.

After watching Baldwin at her best on “Bought & Sold” there is no doubt that she is good at what she does. She works under the pressures of a tough market, disgruntled clients (in one particularly amusing episode), and problematic situations. She also specializes in “staging homes” to give her sellers a marketplace edge, she says. Perhaps this is how she has been able to sell countless properties within a matter of a few days, not to mention her listings have been the subject of feature articles in The New York Times.

Would you spend 45 minutes on the Internet listening to a top Realtor share the secrets of their success, especially if it involved the Internet? It’s not every day that a brand will allow its best agents to give away their trade secrets, but Number1Expert is doing just that with its new available-to-anyone Web site feature called “Masters of the Internet.” In one-to-one interviews with top performing Realtors, Number1Expert finds pearls of wisdom that all agents can use. The next one is Wednesday May 30 with Roberta Baldwin. Baldwin has really mastered the process of attracting online consumers and cultivating them as leads and ultimately to closed deals.
