RISMEDIA, July 24, 2007–When 140 of the top real estate brokers, industry leaders, and agent team leaders gathered at RISMedia’s CEO Exchange in Sedalia, Colorado today, to discuss the most pressing issues facing the residential real estate industry, author Ralph R. Roberts was ready to present them with a surprise—an autographed copy of his recent book Foreclosure Investing For Dummies (John Wiley & Sons, August 2007).
As reports have shown, the burgeoning number of foreclosures across the nation is a major concern and promises to worsen over the coming months. According to Roberts, “The industry needs to take action to stem the tide of foreclosures in the long term and ease the suffering of distressed homeowners in the short term.”
In Foreclosure Investing For Dummies, Roberts reveals his method for offering immediate relief—helping homeowners who are facing foreclosure while earning a fair profit when a homeowner wants or needs to sell the home they are about to lose. As Roberts points out, “Most homeowners who are facing foreclosure are completely in the dark about their options, and most of them have plenty of options, assuming they take action early in the process.”
By presenting attendees with a copy of the book, Roberts aimed to send the message that brokers, agents, loan officers, and other real estate professionals can help distressed homeowners in their markets by educating them and encouraging them to contact their lenders as soon as possible. By remaining proactive, homeowners may be able to significantly improve the outcome, perhaps retaining ownership of the property or selling it to cash out any equity they have built up in the home. When the home ends up on the auction block, homeowners risk losing everything—their home and all the equity they worked hard to build.
Although Foreclosure Investing For Dummies is written primarily for investors, Roberts says that the book is also useful for real estate professionals who want to brush up on the foreclosure process and perhaps even grow their business by adding a foreclosure division to help distressed homeowners while adding another revenue stream. “I’m not recommending that investors and brokers prey upon hapless homeowners,” says Roberts, “but foreclosure specialists can provide a valuable service to distressed homeowners while earning a fair profit for themselves. Who’s better qualified to do this than real estate professionals?”
Roberts hopes that by equipping investors and professionals with the information they need to invest in preforeclosures and foreclosures with empathy and understanding, he may be able to ease the pain of distressed homeowners and help the industry through the current crisis. He thanks Dave and Gail Liniger, RISMedia, and Wiley Publishing for giving him the opportunity to pass his message directly to industry leaders—the thought leaders who are best qualified to guide the industry through its current crisis.
