Publisher’s Desk: Talk it Up

Print Article Print Article

Back when you were a top-producing, independent sales rep, the bulk of your communications were between you and your clients…and here and there with your broker depending on his or her level of involvement in your business.

As a team leader or team member, however, you’re now in an environment where communication on many levels is central to your success-communication with your team, your broker, your clients, your community. Effectively getting your many messages across is critical for success in the agent team model.

Several articles in this month’s edition of RISMedia’s Power Team Report address strategies for effective communication, both online and in person. Joe Cooke’s article on page xx for example, lists the top-five communication blunders, including not providing enough information and not employing a variety of communication methods, like phone and e-mail for starters. As Cooke so aptly reminds us, “Most of your day is spent communicating, and you can tell how well you are doing that by how easy your day turns out and by how much money you are making.” Truer words, as they say…

We also feature an article this month that addresses e-mail communication specifically. On page xx, you’ll find great advice and ideas on making your e-mail marketing more successful. Did you know, for example, that for any e-mail marketing campaign to succeed you must attract the client long before you even can consider converting them? Are your e-mail communications “attractive” enough?

Also look to our Power Team Profiles this month to find great ideas for effective communication within the team. Most rely on weekly meetings, like Nancy Pavic. “We hold meetings once a week and talk about all of our plans for the following week,” says Nancy. “I also have [team members] hand in weekly progress reports and if I see that one of them is having trouble with progress I help them.” Such consistent communication with team members is now just as important as communicating with your clients.

Time to let your leadership talents shine through and become not only an expert salesperson, but an expert communicator, too.

Wishing you continued success.
