RISMEDIA, Oct. 29, 2007-According to a new survey released by Vault.com Inc., 37% of employees say they celebrate Halloween with their co-workers, and 27% dress up in costume.
The Vault Halloween at the Workplace survey took place in mid-October, garnering 401 responses from employees representing various industries.
One respondent said, “Someone once dressed up as the boss. We thought she was supposed to be Cruella DeVille…well I guess that could work both ways!” Other costumes mentioned include Freddy Krueger, a cow, and a boss and an assistant who dressed as each other.
Many of those whose offices did not acknowledge the holiday expressed disappointment. One respondent said that there was “no sense of humor” at his workplace and another said “they’d probably kill us” if they came to work in costume.
For some, Halloween is an excellent occasion for a practical joke. Said one, “Halloween was always a great time to bring on new employees and let them know it is ‘mandatory’ to wear a Halloween costume for some sort of awesome prize that is judged by the executives. The joke is that there is no contest. It usually ends up as a big laugh but can go very wrong for the thin-skinned.”
