National Association of Real Estate Editors to Gather for ‘Must Attend’ Event

RISMEDIA, March 12, 2008-News-making real estate trend panels and signature urban tours, a writers workshop, and the unveiling of the best work in the genre make the National Association of Real Estate Editors 42nd Annual Real Estate Journalism Conference in Dallas a “must attend” event for the nation’s residential and commercial real estate journalists.

“Exploring the Urban West,” running from May 7 – 10, will include a tour of one of the nation’s most glamorous brownfield redevelopments, Victory. Developed by Ross Perot, Jr. – who will speak to the group – this 75-acre new urban neighborhood has green office buildings and shop-lined streets with condos above. NAREE will tour a $10 million penthouse in the stylish “W” Hotel and condo there.

Opening day, conferees will meet at the 100-year-old Neiman Marcus store and visit developer Lucy Crow Billingsly’s penthouse overlooking a freeway that will be covered and converted into an urban park.

In a tour of historic redevelopment, conferees will learn how the Bass Brothers turned 36 blocks of downtown Fort Worth into “Sundance Square.” Train buffs will love the historic T&P train station, still in operation, with adjacent lofts dwellings.

NAREE will tour the Circle T Ranch and the 17,000-acre Alliance development, where a panel will discuss large-scale developments.

NAREE’s “Home Selling in the Internet Era” panel will feature speakers from the epicenter of this dynamic real estate sales evolution: Zillow, Realtor.com and Google.

Brian Montgomery, FHA commissioner, is also expected to create news at the conference when he talks about his agency’s impact on the jumbo loan market.

Todd Mansfield, chairman of the Urban Land Institute; Charles McMillan, president-elect of the National Association of Realtors; and Mark Alfieri of Behringer Harvard will discuss trends in realty.

Top contestants in NAREE’s 58th Annual Real Estate Journalism competition will pick up $10,000 in prizes during the Friday May 9th luncheon banquet. And three journalists will share their success stories in an era when many newsrooms are shrinking.

Veteran real estate editor, Carl Larsen, who worked at the San Diego Union-Tribune for 34 years, will lead a writing workshop.

The conference begins at noon Wednesday, May 7, with a Spa Lunch and Lite Energy Therapy, an ideal networking opportunity. Book deals and freelance work are frequently discussed in NAREE’s hospitality suites each evening. The conference’s popular Meet the Press session provides fast-paced networking between journalists, publicists, authors, editors, columnists and the publishers of realty books.
