What to Ask Contractors

RISMEDIA, April 9, 2008-(MCT)-A lot of us have heard that we should ask a remodeling contractor whether he or she is licensed and insured. We know to ask how much a project costs. But we might forget to ask the questions recommended by John DeSilvia and John Palanca from the DIY Network’s “Under Construction,” airing Sunday evenings:

- Who will run the job? Ask to meet the foremen and find out how often he or she will visit the site.
- How many workers will be on the job every day?
- How many projects like this has the contractor done before? Get references and view the contractor’s other projects, if possible.
- What kind of materials are being used?
- What form of payment schedule will they accept?
- Who is in charge of securing the project at night?
- If there is an emergency, who should be contacted?
