RISMEDIA, April 14, 2008-In this continuing series about changes in the media and distribution of and access to real content, we will examine the new media advertising model-free content distribution as a method of intentional placement:

In the old days of SEO, we used to build links by submitting to directories, and we still do to some extent. But now social media sites like MySpace, Facebook, and Yelp have replaced niche directories for this purpose, and dynamic content is the rule of the day to build a worthwhile link.

A good strategy is to install WordPress, a widely-used ‘open source’, AKA free publishing platform, on the Realtor’s target domain, so that the RSS feed from the blog originates at the Realtor’s website, making the Realtor the source of the information. In SEO terms, your website would be referred to as an ‘authority source.’

By far the best model to use online and the one that has been in place for many years in print, television, and radio is to allow everyone free access to the information by way of wide distribution, which now is done with RSS and without a “gate keeper.”

Free distribution of original content by Internet technology creates an audience; and that audience can be targeted much more exactly than ever before without paid advertising, which is the topic of our next article here about changes in the creation and distribution of intellectual property with technology, and how that method of distribution can affect search engine placement.
