Diane Turton, Realtors Launches Summer Food Drive to Restock Foodbank

Summer renters can help by donating their extra food

RISMEDIA, May 21, 2008-The Jersey Shore will soon welcome thousands of renters who can actually get more out of their summer vacation by leaving something very useful behind. Families can contribute non-perishable food, which is left over from their vacation, to the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

At the start of a vacation, visitors often stock their beach homes with lots of food. When their visit ends, there is usually at least one bag of unopened items left. This summer, instead of lugging the boxes, cans and containers home, guests can bring the items to one of Diane Turton, Realtors’ shore offices in Avon-By-The-Sea, Bay Head and Lavallette as well as Beach Haven and Surf City on Long Beach Island (LBI).

Groceries collected by the real estate firm will go to the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The non-profit organization, which serves food pantries, centers for the elderly and soup kitchens, reports that the demand for food is rising rapidly while their inventory of donated items is declining. According to the FoodBank, one reason more working families are going to food pantries is because increasing costs are making it harder for people to make ends meet.

“We are asking summer renters and residents to support our ‘Share the Spare Food’ drive,” said Diane S. Turton, the firm’s founder, owner and broker of record.

The drive will run from Memorial Day weekend to the week after Labor Day. Mrs. Turton suggests families contribute their non-perishable food when they drop off the keys to the rental property. Collection containers have been placed at participating offices. Renters and residents can get more details by visiting participating Diane Turton, Realtors’ offices in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
