MRIS, August 25, 2008-One of the biggest misconceptions a real estate agent can have about his website is thinking that once the site is up and running he’s done. This is a recipe for disaster. For your site to be effective (capturing leads) it must be updated frequently with new content. If a prospective client visits your website multiple times and never gains any new information he or she will not return. Also, search engines will rank your site lower in the results page as the information in your site becomes stagnant. One of the best ways to keep your site fresh is through blogging. Blogs allow you to impart valuable information to visitors, position yourself as an authority, and let your personality shine through. Many websites contain pre-written free reports (which you can edit) that you can offer visitors. Keeping these reports fresh or adding your own reports will also help. Adding fresh links to sites that will be of interest to your visitors is another way to keep your site current. Not only will keeping your site fresh entice visitors to return, but search engines will assign a higher rank to sites with newer content.
Prior to selecting a website vendor, make sure that the site is “agent friendly.” You must be able to change your content, track your leads, see site statistics, and perform other maintenance activities without having to rely on your vendor. Make sure it is easy for you to access your back-end (control panel), and that you are comfortable with the usage of back-end functions. If your site is not self-service it will not serve you well.
ActiveAgent®, ActiveAgent® Professional, and Lingo are websites offered by MRIS®. These are self-service (but we are always there to assist). Every page allows access to the control panel. Lingo uses the same ID and password that you currently use to access Matrix, Keystone and our Web site. For more information please log on to www.mris.com, select Products & Services from the links on the left-hand side of the page, then click on MRIS® products.
