RISMEDIA, Sept. 30, 2008-Many of you may remember the days when a new website needed only to be submitted to a few search engines and directories to get traffic and rankings. Those days are forever gone.

Now, in order to be found online-in order for your website to get any traffic at all-it is necessary to not only submit it to thousands of search engines and directories, but also to have a presence and build online communities and groups of friends on social media sites, and to syndicate a feed that originates from your website, containing constantly refreshed topic-specific information, preferably containing video, sound and a call to interact.

This RSS feed (really simple syndication) must be made available to the entire world through feed syndicators, blog aggregators and the like in order for anyone to find it. It is mostly the reprinting, subscription to and links back to the originator of the feed (preferably your root domain) that determines your rankings on Google, Yahoo!, MSN, and the others (rather than anything you can do onsite to optimize, although site architecture and, specifically, feed format does matter).

While some of these submissions can be automated somewhat with software, many of the places you want to be found-and a constant stream of new ones-require that a profile be built-and, in some cases, a whole group of friends be nurtured and promulgated by a live, intelligent human being.

More difficult to duplicate is the fact that this human being must know about SEO, in order to name, build and nurture growth in these communities to the best traffic-building advantage, although most of the best ones are completely free.
