Fair Housing Listing Guidelines

Print Article Print Article

MRIS, Oct. 6, 2008-It is the 40th anniversary of Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, better known as the Fair Housing Act. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status and disability. States and local government may have additional fair housing regulations.

Listings entered into MRIS must adhere to the provisions of the Fair Housing Act as well as well as state and local fair housing regulations. Avoid discriminatory remarks by describing the property, not a person.

Additional information on Fair Housing may be found on the MRIS website, (http://www.mris.com/compliance/), at HUD (http://www.hud.gov/offices/fheo/FHLaws/), or at Equal Rights Center (http://www.equalrightscenter.org/).
