While the focus of Pinterest is posting images of interest and others sharing them, there are a number of ways to drive engagement with your audience beyond merely pinning and repining!
Responding or asking questions when someone repins your photo is an easy way of remaining active with your followers. We already discussed creating boards of your products and interests and enlisting consumer feedback as another tactic for connecting with clients. You could also explore engaging users on Pinterest through contests as we at Homes.com recently did.
Last February, Homes.com ran a “Pin it if you Love it” contest, in which we asked participants to create a “Pin it if you Love it” board, search Homes.com, and pin at least 10 photos of homes they love. The pins were based on location, interior/exterior design or whatever else might pique the Pinner’s interest.
In our next installment, we will explore the lessons we learned after running our own Pinterest contest. We will discuss the logistics of running such a large scale contest, the active we had with engaged users and how Pinterest was transformed from just another social media site to the second social media referring traffic source into Homes.com.
