In the last edition of Monday Morning Mobile, we discussed the newly released information about Google’s Mobile SEO Guidelines. The information they have put out to marketers to firm up the mobile experience they are providing to consumers is designed to ensure the best experience for the consumer. So while the old adage “the customer is always right” would fit in this scenario, a new study shows that many Fortune 500 companies are ill prepared for these changes and risk being downgraded by Google.
Pure Oxygen Labs recently performed a Mobile SEO risk assessment of the Top 100 Fortune 500 Companies and found that only six fully comply with the changes that Google is planning to make to their algorithm. The Mobile Risk Assessment performed by Pure Oxygen Labs went on to identify that only 26 percent of the Fortune 100 sites adequately redirect smartphone searchers to deep pages within their mobile sites.
According to the study, the companies best suited to comply with the changes Google will be implementing include Disney, GE, Humana, JP Morgan and HCA Healthcare. Pure Oxygen Labs CEO Brian Klais believes that Google plans to begin implementing the changes to their algorithm this coming fall, which gives companies a few months to reorganize their mobile initiatives in order to be prepared or risk be downgraded. For marketers of large companies, this means the pressure is only to comply just before holiday season, which has seen tremendous increase in mobile purchases over the past couple years.
Within the real estate industry, those firms that have spent countless resources working their way up to the top of their market’s search result rankings need to also take time to understand and identify the changes that need to be made to their mobile strategy in order to comply with Google’s new guidelines. Be sure to enlist the help of mobile experts who are constantly updating and providing suggestions on how to comply with Google’s new guidelines.
Last, it is important to understand that this is just the beginning of what’s to come. It is no secret that consumer web traffic is shifting from desktops to mobile devices. Hence, companies like Google are creating guidelines specifically designed to look out for this consumer demographic. If you have yet to adopt a mobile solution, there is no excuse to wait any longer.
