The Center for Real Estate Studies at REALTOR® University produces academically rigorous, impartial, peer-reviewed research papers written by top academic researchers on issues of importance to the research community, to the real estate industry, policymakers and other interested parties. Over the past year-and-a-half, the Center has sponsored more than a dozen research projects on issues ranging from generational homeownership trends to future housing demand to the rent-vs.-buy decision and an evaluation of downpayment assistance programs. In addition to being published in the Journal of the Center for Real Estate Studies, Center-sponsored research has been presented at major academic and professional conferences across the country and around the world.

The Journal of the Center for Real Estate Studies includes not only original research from the Center’s portfolio of sponsored research projects, but also a variety of articles that look at subject areas from different perspectives, articles that represent the wide range of topics in the real estate industry, and a variety of interesting notes and tools of use to the practitioner and others with interest in the field of real estate. Further, it is our hope that the research and perspectives in these pages will engage our readers in a continuing dialogue on issues and developments of importance to the industry, on policy matters, and in real estate education.

Peter C. Burley, CRE FRICS, is the director of the Center for Real Estate Studies, REALTOR® University.
