Managing energy is also a crucial component for agents and brokers to think about as we rebound. Rather than focusing on rate of return, recruiting or marketing, try pulling back and really asking what your office needs to do to use energy effectively and help agents and managers prosper.

“We should equip our leaders every single day to lead and not just be deal doctors or problem solvers. With dynamic coaching and development, drive leaders to be better leaders.”

And how do we do that? Here is a snippet of Staver’s tried and true leadership advice:

Relax. Take a deep breath, step back and understand that this, like every other market, requires you to influence people. Don’t overwhelm them. Give them tools one at a time to help them manage their tasks.

Constantly be in some space of development. Leaders tend to be all output and no input. When they’re constantly giving, they don’t take time to read. Take the time to read some news on the Web or check out a trade magazine. Feed yourself and get your head in the game on a daily basis.

Set a good example. Make sure to model for your agents the kind of business skill and energy management that they would be proud of promoting at a convention or elsewhere. Ask yourself if what you’re doing as a manager is an adequate reflection of how you’d like your agents to manage their businesses, lives, energies and attitudes.

This summer, there’s a lot of real estate talk ahead for Staver…and a lot of road.

“All that it takes to be safe on a Harley adventure ride is relatable to what real estate leaders have to deal with on a single day,” says Staver. “I’m hoping to have a great impact on leaders, have a great time and also donate some of the proceeds to charity.”
