The Real Estate Services Providers Council Inc. (RESPRO®) has announced that Ken Trepeta, Director of Real Estate Services for the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), will succeed Sue Johnson as President and Executive Director of the trade association.
“Sue’s leadership over the last two decades has been instrumental in positioning RESPRO members to grow and achieve success in a highly competitive and regulated environment. We want to thank Sue for her tireless dedication to our members and wish her the very best in her future endeavors,” said Tim Wilson, 2015 RESPRO® Chairman and President of Affiliated Businesses, Long and Foster Companies.
Ken Trepeta, who has been working on key issues of importance to RESPRO® for almost ten years, brings two decades of Washington experience to the association. “We have found a perfect successor in Ken,” Wilson says. “Ken has worked closely with RESPRO® and our members during his tenure at NAR and understands the challenges the industry is facing in both the legislative and regulatory areas.”
In his role at NAR, Trepeta has been working with real estate firms and their agents in implementing and maximizing their core business services, such as mortgage operations; title, escrow and settlement; home warranties and inspections; insurance and concierge service.
“I appreciate the confidence the RESPRO® Board has put in me to lead the organization’s operations,” Trepeta said. “Managing NAR’s Real Estate Services program for the last eight years has provided me with the necessary experience to help take RESPRO® to the next level. I look forward to partnering with NAR and the other leading trades in our industry when opportunities arise to ensure our members concerns are addressed.”
Trepeta holds a B.A. degree from Binghamton University where he triple majored in Economics, Political Science, and Law and Society. He has J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law and is a member of the bar in New York and the District of Columbia.
Trepeta will start with RESPRO® on July 8, 2015, but will fulfill any remaining commitments with the Mortgage Bankers Association, American Land Title Association, NAR and other trades as they continue to educate the industry on the upcoming TILA/RESPA or “TRID” changes taking place on August 1, 2015.
“Educating real estate agents and other settlement service providers is just as important to RESPRO® and its members as it is to the other trade associations,” Trepeta noted. “We want to make sure the implementation of TRID is as smooth as possible for consumers and RESPRO® members, through their affiliated businesses, are uniquely positioned to do so.” Affiliated businesses are held to a higher standard under TRID. They must disclose exactly what a consumer’s costs will be and cannot charge more than what is disclosed unlike other settlement service providers. “We believe our members already deliver at a higher level and will continue to do so under these new rules,” Trepeta concluded.
