During a special presentation on July 1 in Madison, N.J., Army National Guard Spc. Anthony Cappel, presented Realogy Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President Richard A. Smith with an American flag flown over the Camp Five detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on September 11, 2015.
Cappel, a native of Newark, N.J. and the son of Realogy employee Arlene Cappel, was deployed to Guantanamo Bay from June 2015 through March 2016 during Operation Enduring Freedom. The flag presented to Smith was personally flown for Realogy over the detention facility by Cappel for a ceremonial time of nine minutes, 11 seconds on September 11, 2015, as a tribute to those who lost their lives during the terrorist attack on the United States on September 11, 2001, and to those who continue the fight against terror. Smith also received a certificate of authenticity signed by Cappel’s superior officers.
“We are honored that Anthony would think of our company during his time of service to our nation,” Smith says. “This flag and certificate will be proudly displayed at our headquarters and will serve as a reminder to us all of the great sacrifices that so many men and women make every day to keep our nation secure and protect our freedom.”
