In 1985, Leon d’Ancona was renovating homes in an unstable real estate market. The idea was to renovate quickly and sell quickly. The problem was that if it took longer than 78 days to sell he would lose money. He suspected that there is predictability in the housing market. He went to work with a passion.
Using available data, Leon d’Ancona developed algorithms to predict short-term market trends and frequency distribution charts to find out which part of the real estate market was moving. Using this detailed information he was also able to pick the right professionals who know how to market homes and bring buyers. To his surprise they were not always the top agents.
Less than a year later IMS Incorporated was doing real estate statistics full time when RE/MAX Corporate offices awarded IMS the largest statistical information contract in their history.
