RISMEDIA, August 2, 2007—GMAC Global Relocation Services will offer a complimentary “Webinar” presentation that will explore the intricate aspects of doing
business and living in the Republic of Singapore. Titled, “Singapore: Doing Business with This Unique Island City-State,” the Webinar will be held Tuesday, August 7 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time.
An island nation located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, Singapore is the 18th-wealthiest country in the world. Consisting of the main island and more than 60 smaller islands, Singapore boasts a thriving, modern economy focused in large part on electronics and manufacturing. The nation is a melting pot of various religions and languages, including Buddhism, Christianity, Taoism and Hinduism. Singapore’s national language
is Malay, but the nation also has several official languages, including Mandarin and English.
With Singapore’s diverse religious, business and cultural realities as a backdrop, GMAC Global Relocation Services’ hour-long Webinar will provide unique insights into the cultural attributes of Singapore and Singapore nationals in the workplace, dispelling common stereotypes and perceptions.
The Webinar also will discuss the challenges companies and their expatriate employees may face when conducting business with colleagues, clients and suppliers in Singapore.
“Singapore is without a doubt, a major player on the world business stage,” said GMAC Global Relocation Services’ Senior Vice President Scott Sullivan. “But with such a wide mix of religious and cultural elements in play, it isn’t surprising that misperceptions about Singapore’s business culture and practices exist. As we’ve done with our other Webinars that have focused on different countries, our goal is to help multinational corporations and their employees understand how a solid cultural footing will help them develop successful business relations.”
The Webinar will:
— Provide an overview and explanation of life in Singapore.
— Discuss common stereotypes and perceptions of Singapore nationals.
— Analyze business and social protocol “do’s and don’ts” for interacting
and working in Singapore.
— Provide a framework for comparing and contrasting cultural differences
found in Singapore with participants’ own cultures, to enable them to
identify and resolve challenges in their own communication.
— Suggest communication strategies for bridging cultural differences
between personal, national and the target cultures.
Participation in the Webinar is free and limited to the first 100 registrants. To register, go to: http://www.gmacglobalrelocation.com/insight_support/country_club.asp
