RISMEDIA, March 16, 2007-Recognizing the importance of a higher education and the associated rising costs to today's youth, Century 21 Real Estate LLC named M. Nicole Bartel of Fredericksburg, Texas; Amanda Brown of Poteau, Okla.; and Hector Gonzalez of Brea, Calif., as the recipients of its 2007 national scholarship awards.
This is the fourth consecutive year that Century 21 Real Estate LLC, in conjunction with its parent company, Realogy Corporation, held its national scholarship awards program, granting three deserving young people each a $10,000 educational scholarship. Through this annual scholarship program, the CENTURY 21(r) System has awarded $120,000 in scholarships since starting the program in 2004.
"These scholarships are making a real difference in the lives of our Century 21 System members and their families and we are proud to recognize another talented group of recipients in 2007," said Tom Kunz, president and CEO of Century 21 Real Estate LLC.
M. Nicole Bartel
Bartel is a first-year student at the University of Texas in Austin pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government with a double minor in Astronomy and Business. She maintains a 4.0 grade point average and is in the liberal arts honors program at the University. This valedictorian of Fredericksburg High School's Class of 2006 aspires to attend law school upon completion of her undergraduate degree in 2010.
"As a child, Nicole expressed a passionate interest in outer space; as a high school student, she had the opportunity to present several times to representatives from the NASA space program," said Mimi Bartel, mother of Nicole Bartel and sales associate with Century 21 Sunset, Realtors in Fredericksburg, Texas. "The Century 21 Scholarship will help Nicole to pursue her interests in law and astronomy."
Amanda Brown
Currently a senior at Cameron High School in Cameron, Okla., Brown maintains a 4.0 grade point average and hopes to earn the honor of valedictorian of her class upon graduation in May 2007. A member of the Oklahoma High School Honor Society for the past three consecutive years, Brown plans to attend Carl Albert College in Poteau, Okla. and study Education.
"The dream of going to college and becoming a teacher has always been with Amanda, but that dream became even more of a personal goal for her when her father, Jon Brown, passed away in August 2006," said Wanda Brown, mother of Amanda Brown and sales professional with Century 21 Homestead Realty in Poteau, Okla. "Amanda is focused on her dream and is passionate about pursuing a career in education. We can't thank the Century 21 System enough for this opportunity."
Hector Gonzalez
Gonzalez is currently studying architecture at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona where he maintains a 3.3 grade point average. With his Bachelor of Architecture degree, Gonzalez plans to work closely with the real estate industry and help resolve overpopulation issues by developing high-density housing options.
"This scholarship means so much to Hector and me as we work together to fund his future," said Eva Dominguez, mother of Hector Gonzalez and sales professional with Century 21 Hometown Realty in Bakersfield, Calif. "I always tell my son how proud I am of him and his dedication to his studies. The Century 21 System scholarship program is truly a blessing."
About the Century 21 National Scholarship Program The program is open to children, grandchildren and legal wards of Century 21 System professionals (non-broker/owners) nationwide.
Applicants are judged on the basis of academic excellence, community service and financial need. Students must either be a current high school senior or attending an accredited college or university.
