MRIS, Nov. 12, 2007-If you’re not already into text messaging, you probably will be at some point in the near future. It’s fast becoming a preferred method of communication, especially among the younger crowd.
Maybe you’re intimidated by the concept. You’ve probably seen teenagers rapidly thumbing away at their phones or PDAs, messaging each other, even when they’re standing next to each other! You may wonder how they can communicate so fast, using only their thumbs.
It’s all a matter of code. They use TONS of abbreviations. For instance, “what’s up” is typed this way-WU. If something’s boring, you type ZZZ. “By the way” is typed BTW. “Keep in touch” is typed KIT. Before you start thinking that it’s all too alien, just remember, RSVP and BYOB. This is a concept that’s been around a long time.
