RISMEDIA, October 7, 2010—This year’s NAR Realtors® Conference & Expo, “NARdiGras 2010,” is expected to draw about 20,000 Realtors® and guests, NAR reports. Realtors will be joined by industry experts, lawmakers, federal agency officials and other guests for a program that addresses the many issues facing today’s residential and commercial real estate markets, including government incentives for and support of homeownership, the impact of the midterm elections on the real estate industry, changes in the mortgage environment and short sales and foreclosures.
The conference is taking place Nov. 5-8, 2010 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. To register, click here.
Four years ago, NAR was the first major conference to return to New Orleans after the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina. Now, five years after Katrina, Realtors® return against a backdrop of progress toward recovery and reticence about the region’s future in the aftermath of the BP oil spill.
On Nov. 3 and 4 before the conference begins, Realtors® will join New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity® and Rebuilding Together® New Orleans to rebuild and restore homes for deserving families in the New Orleans area.
Since Hurricane Katrina, thanks to the hard work and generosity of 100,000 volunteers and thousands more who donated to NOAHH’s efforts, over 300 families have achieved their dreams of homeownership. On Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. CDT, one local family will receive the keys to their new home.
In today’s market environment, issues surrounding the value of homeownership to individuals, communities and the nation’s economy are top-of mind, and sessions throughout the conference will engage participants in these issues.
2011 NAR President Ron Phipps will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. CDT on Friday, Nov. 5, to discuss NAR activities, programs and initiatives to ensure public policies that promote responsible, sustainable homeownership. At 11 a.m. on Friday, NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun will present his forecast and November Pending Home Sales Index report. Later that day at 2 p.m., NAR Vice President for Research Paul Bishop will present findings from the 2010 Home Buyer and Seller Profile.
On Saturday, Nov. 6 from 1:30-3 p.m., just days after the midterm elections, Tucker Carlson, Fox News contributor and editor-in-chief of The Daily Caller, will join Paul Begala, CNN commentator and former presidential campaign strategist, to examine the outcome of the elections and analyze how these outcomes may affect the real estate industry.
Additionally on Saturday, 2010 NAR President Vicki Cox Golder will speak at the General Session from 4-6 p.m. Golder will give an industry address and recognize the accomplishments of the 2010 Realtors® of the Year and Good Neighbor Award Winners.
