The real estate professionals at Prudential Network Realty are helping students learn about career opportunities through their support of a new real estate mentoring program for youth attending the MaliVai Washington Youth Center.
“It is very rewarding to launch a real estate mentoring partnership with the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation,” said Prudential Network Realty Broker Manager Andy Fletcher. “We are excited about the opportunity to work with tomorrow’s leaders and help develop Northeast Florida’s future REALTORS®.”
Students and real estate professionals meet weekly for the mentoring program. A special curriculum, developed in partnership with Dr. Ronald Boatright of the Florida Real Estate Institute, enables youth attending the foundation’s mentoring program to learn about all aspects of real estate and the profession’s careers. Sessions led by real estate professionals have provided an overview of a career as a Realtor and introduced students to key industry terms, such as Multiple Listing Service (MLS). Students have learned about real estate marketing, how to take prospects to view a property, real estate financing and what happens during a closing. The mentoring program also included a session featuring a mock closing and a “convention” presenting opportunities for a career in real estate followed by a pizza party.
Fletcher, who is a former member of the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation board of directors and a tennis enthusiast, launched the program by organizing and raising money through Real Estate Round Robin competitions. Numerous real estate professionals have taken part in the friendly competitions and, to date, nearly $4,000 has been raised for the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation.
“Our Round Robin competitions have featured an enjoyable day of tennis, camaraderie, food and fun, while raising vital scholarship funds for the foundation and the mentoring program,” Fletcher said. “We are very fortunate to play a role helping to develop Northeast Florida’s future top producers.”
