Prudential Network Realty recently supported the Relay for Life at Bartram Trail High School, raising money and awareness for the American Cancer Society (ACS). Hundreds of people and 76 participating teams took part in the overnight relay event, raising more than $186,000, the company announced.
“There are very few people who haven’t been touched by cancer,” says Pamela Pearce, a REALTOR® at Prudential Network Realty’s Mandarin office and the event chair for the Bartram Trail Relay. “Relay for Life not only honors cancer survivors and remembers those we have lost, but also raises funds and awareness to help save lives.”
In addition to Pearce, team members included Hazel Tweedale, Christin Koubek and Todd Hawkins of Prudential Network Realty, and Steve Kent of Wells Fargo. Their team alone raised nearly $2,500 for this year’s event.
Relay for Life is ACS’ signature fundraising program. The Bartram Trail Relay is one of almost 6,000 events worldwide and one of the largest in Florida. It is an overnight event, symbolizing that cancer never sleeps. The walkathon event begins with opening ceremonies and then a survivors’ lap. Participants take to the course and at least one member of each team must walk or run on the course at all times. After nightfall, candles lit inside bags line the course during a luminaria ceremony. Participants often walk a lap in silence to honor those who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease.
“Relay for Life is a unique way to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society,” says Christy Budnick, executive vice president of residential real estate, Prudential Network Realty. “Everyone on our team has tremendous community spirit and they get passionately involved to support others and make a difference in our community.”
