Regional Spotlight—Over 180 students from several Tucson area high schools recently learned about financial literacy and home ownership this fall from members of the Tucson Association of REALTORS® Housing Opportunities Committee as part of their “From High School to Homeownership – The Four Key Financial Steps” Program.
Students from Pueblo, Santa Rita, Tanque Verde and Edge High Schools learned how behavior with money and credit in their teen years could have long-term consequences regarding their ability to rent or buy a home in the future.
At the conclusion of the program, students are encouraged to submit essays based on what they learned. Over 85 essays were submitted. We would like to congratulate the following essay winners, all from Santa Rita High School: first place, LeAnn Lyons; second place, Chris Root and third place, Jayanna Chevalier.
“We have been teaching this program for over five years now and each year it is inspiring to see the students taking what they’ve learned and applying it to their life,” says Tom Heath, chair of the Housing Opportunities Committee. “
Other area high schools interested in joining the Spring 2013 program should contact Christine Sanchez at (520) 382-8776 or christine@tucsonrealtors.org.
