About Our Speakers
Julie Toon Timms began her real estate career in 1979 as a sales assistant and four years later in 1983, opened her own brokerage. Two years later, in 1985, she opened a real estate franchise and operated that company in a traditional manner until 1998 when she realized that the franchise model was not working for her and disbanded the firm. It was at this time she met her now husband, Bernie Timms, and together they started an independent brokerage with no agents.
In 2008, with the real estate market in a downward spiral, they invested in an Internet lead-generation website. With a steady flow of good leads coming in, they slowly began growing a team to handle the increasing volume of business.
Today, Julie has grown Hilton Head Island Real Estate Brokers from one agent with an income of $60,000 GCI to a team of nine (and actively adding more) with GCI steadily increasing to over $1 million with goals to double that in 2015, all the time ensuring everyone has a very healthy life/work balance.
Christy Buck is a third-generation agent that has been in the business for 15+ years. She has had her own team for several years at RE/MAX Top Realty in Houston, starting with an assistant first, and then added her first buyer’s agent in 2013. She now has four buyer’s agents, two support staff, and an office manager as part of her team. Soon they will be hiring their third support staff member.
The Christy Buck Team started at 52 units, averaging $230,000-$250,000 in annual commission when they hired Verl three years ago, and have quadrupled their business since then. In 2015, her team hit over $1 million in commissions, closing 190 units, which includes residential homes, commercial and lease homes. Their average sale price is $280,000, catering to all price ranges of clients—whether a client has a $130,000 home or $1.3 million dollar home, Buck’s team gives all of their clients A+ service. With Verl’s expertise, the company plans to double that in the next year or two.
