The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $1.5 billion and $242.7 million to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, respectively, for disaster recovery, the agency announced. Both were extensively damaged in Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The funds have been granted through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program. HUD analyzed Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Small Business Administration (SBA) data to determine need.
