High-End Home Security Systems Offer Safety to the Max

In today’s world, home security systems are a top priority for many homeowners who want protection against intrusion whether or not they’re at home.

But some of the latest advances in luxury home security are reaching eye-popping levels–like the system at a $45 million estate in San Francisco, said to be the Bay Area’s most expensive property on the market, which features nine security cameras, a Batcave-like garage entrance, biometric keypad access and an enterprise-worthy firewall.

Forbes Magazine contributors spoke to Greg Malin, the CEO of Troon Pacific, who built the San Francisco home, for a rundown on some of the security options luxury homeowners are looking for these days.

Malin said he’s seeing interest from celebrities and high-profile individuals in such technological advances as “man radar,” blast-resistant floors and walls, security sensors to protect valuable artwork–even biometric access to wine rooms.

Also available for those willing to pay the price are such sophisticated security measures as “safe rooms” to be used in the event of chemical and/or seismic events, and “trapping mechanisms” designed to keep intruders from fleeing.

Less sophisticated, and less costly–but well worth having for peace of mind as well as protection–are newer safety technologies such as:

• The RING video doorbell, which offers security cameras and smart lighting so you know when anyone is at your door.
• The August SmartLock, a refined keyless entry system.
• The Notion Home Monitoring Sensor, a cookie-sized sensor that detects water leaks, temperature changes and open doors or windows, and even integrates with the Nest home thermostat and HomeAdvisor in case you need a contractor to fix that leak.
