RISMEDIA, July 17, 2009-Howard W. “Hoddy” Hanna III has been elected Chair of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation Board of Trustees. His term runs through Dec. 31, 2010.
“Children’s Hospital is a tremendous local, regional and even national asset that has throughout its history enjoyed unwavering support from the families of this community, and I am proud to be a part of that tradition,” Hanna said. “I look forward to the opportunity of leading the Foundation’s Board of Trustees as we work to build on that support to further enhance the mission of Children’s Hospital.”
Hanna has been a member of the Foundation Board since its inception in July 2000 and serves on its Affiliation Oversight Committee, Executive Committee, Finance and Investment Committee and Capital Campaign Cabinet. He also has been a member of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC Board of Trustees since 1993 and currently serves as vice chair. He also serves on the hospital board’s Executive Committee and Finance and Investment Committee. Additionally, Hanna is a member of the UPMC Board of Directors and sits on its Executive Committee.
Hanna’s involvement with Children’s Hospital spans nearly two decades. Over that time, his company has held annual holiday luncheons that have raised millions of dollars in support of Children’s Hospital’s Free Care Fund, which ensures that all children from this region receive the best medical care possible, regardless of insurance or a family’s ability to pay.
Howard Hanna’s support of Children’s Hospital extends to the new campus, which opened in May 2009 and features the Howard Hanna Healing Garden, an outdoor, rooftop garden where patients and families can be outside and retreat from a stressful hospital situation for fresh air and an incredible view.
Hanna is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, and has advanced his family-owned, multi-generational business to now be the fourth largest, full-service and the third largest privately held real estate brokerage firm in the United States. With 131 offices across the four-state area of Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and New York, the company employs more than 5,000 sales associates and staff.
Hanna serves the community through many civic involvements. He is a member of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland’s Pittsburgh office, Citizens Bank, John Carroll University, LaRoche College, the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority, the Katz Graduate School of Business Board of Visitors-University of Pittsburgh, and the Diocese of Pittsburgh Finance Council.
He and his wife Mary Anne live in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania where they have raised five children and are the grandparents of eight grandchildren with number 9 and 10 expected later this year.
