RISMEDIA, January 27, 2011—Adam Scoville, RE/MAX Senior Counsel, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Trademark Association (INTA), a worldwide association that supports and advances trademarks and intellectual property as elements of fair and effective global commerce, RE/MAX has announced.
“INTA is a robust community of trademark professionals from more than 190 countries, and it is a great honor for RE/MAX to have Adam serve on the INTA Board of Directors,” said RE/MAX Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, Geoff Lewis. “The RE/MAX trademark is world famous and is our most valuable asset. With the spread of globalization, the importance of protecting trademarks has become an increasingly critical concern.”
According to the company, Scoville, who joined RE/MAX in 2005, has been active with INTA for over seven years, and also serves as Vice Chairman of INTA’s Internet Committee. The committee, which he helps to run, is active in advocating for policies and protections against abusive domain name registrations and phishing, along with other Internet frauds that employ major brand names.
“Most companies don’t have a depth of in-house expertise to draw from when we confront unusual trademark or Internet issues,” said Scoville. “My active participation in INTA gives us expertise and resources in confronting unusual trademark abuses on the Internet. It also creates invaluable opportunities to benchmark and cultivate the subject-matter expertise necessary to protect the RE/MAX brand.”
At RE/MAX World Headquarters, Scoville and his team are dedicated to protecting the RE/MAX brand. His emphasis is on protecting the core marks—the RE/MAX name, the balloon logo, and the sign design—everywhere RE/MAX has a presence, and everywhere RE/MAX might have a presence in the foreseeable future.
