Former Fed Economist to Reveal ‘State of Real Estate’ at RISMedia Economic Summit

Reading Time: 2 mins read

As economic conditions continue to challenge and stymie real estate professionals and their consumers, RISMedia and Citi have come together to host a by-invitation-only event during next month’s REALTORS® Conference & Expo: The Power Broker Economic Summit. Taking place on Saturday, November 12, from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Anaheim Marriott in Anaheim, California, the Economic Summit will feature in-depth analysis from prominent economist, David Stockton.

After three decades at the U.S. Central Bank, Stockton stepped down last month as the Federal Reserve’s top economist. Referred to by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke as “one of the finest economists I have known,” Stockton was the director of the Division of Research and Statistics for 11years.

The Power Broker Economic Summit, sponsored by Citi, will take an in-depth look at housing and the economy with a primary focus on the domestic residential real estate industry. This by-invitation-only event is being held exclusively for members of RISMedia’s Real Estate Information Network® (RREIN), key Power Brokers, and their respective management teams.

“While we are beginning to see some positive indicators relative to the housing industry, brokers and their agents continue to struggle to increase business in today’s economic environment,” says RISMedia President & CEO John Featherston. “That’s why we felt it was critical to host this Economic Summit. There is great need for a realistic assessment of where we stand in today’s economy and what lies ahead for the future. We are thrilled to have someone of David Stockton’s caliber communicate this message to our key brokers.”

“We chose Mr. Stockton as a speaker because we believe he can provide valuable insight to the current economic environment for this audience,” said Blair Allan, senior vice president for Retail Partnership Sales for Citi. “These are obviously historic times in the real estate industry and we look forward to hearing what he has to share.”

Stockton is the former director of the Division of Research and Statistics at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. The 325 members of the Division of Research and Statistics carry out a wide range of economic analysis, forecasting, and research activities related to the domestic economy and financial markets.

Prior to joining the Board staff in 1981, Stockton was an instructor and lecturer at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut and at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. His long list of accomplishments includes holding the position of Economist for the Federal Open Market Committee, the Fed’s policy-setting arm. He makes frequent presentations to various professional organizations, including the American Economic Association, the Econometric Society, the National Bureau of Economic Research, and many foreign central banks. Mr. Stockton received his B.A. and M.A. (1976) from the University of Connecticut and his M.Phil. (1978) and Ph.D. (1983) from Yale University.
