“From the very beginning, our group knew we wanted the quilt to be an educational piece – both for St Augustine history and the art of quilting,” Marshall said. “It has been a very exciting project to work on and we have been filmed to appear in a PBS documentary on history being preserved through quilting.”
K9s for Warriors – Members of the Ponte Vedra Beach office, Fran Gorman, Sarah Hewett, Karen Sheltz, Frankie Townsend and Deb Moulin, volunteer at K9s for Warriors in Ponte Vedra Beach. The nonprofit organization trains and gives service canines to veterans as a way to help them return to civilian life. The team from Prudential Network Realty assists K9s for Warriors with the socialization of service dogs. The organization has four two-hour shifts daily and needs three volunteers per shift to help with the dogs.
“There are various ways you can support this organization and we chose ‘playing’ with the dogs,” Moulin said. “These are big dogs who love to run and play and the organization has a large fenced area in which to exercise the dogs.”
K9s for Warriors offers numerous volunteer opportunities. More information is available at www.k9sforwarriors.org.
Kans4K9s – Like many at Prudential Network Realty, Realtor Robert Woods of the Fleming Island/Orange Park office is known for his generous heart and admired for his giving spirit. Woods is an enthusiastic supporter of Kans4K9s, a charity that backs K9s for Warriors. Kans4K9s collects aluminum cans which are turned into cash to support the K9s for Warriors’ canines and training program.
“This is one of the greatest causes we can support,” said Woods. “This is something anyone can do and it only takes a little time. Instead of putting cans in the trash or the recycling bin, you can help those in need by donating them.”
In addition to collecting countless cans for Kans4K9s, Woods has also donated nearly 18 gallons of blood to the Florida Georgia Blood Alliance. More information about Kans4K9s is available by calling (904) 269-3233 or Kans4K9s@yahoo.com.
