Laurie Janik, general counsel for the National Association of REALTORS®, was the recipient of the 2013 ‘On the Shoulders of Giants’ award during RISMedia’s 18th Annual Power Broker Reception and Dinner, held during the National Association of REALTORS® Conference and Expo this month in San Francisco, Calif.
The award, sponsored by RE/MAX, LLC, was created to recognize individuals whose efforts, works, deeds and character exemplify superior achievements in and for the real estate industry. There to help highlight Janik’s career-long achievements and present the award was RE/MAX’s own Jack Kreider, vice president of Region Development.
Janik started working for the National Association of REALTORS® in 1977 as a law clerk. Ten years later she stepped up as the Association’s general counsel. Throughout her impressive 36-year run in the real estate industry, Janik has been at the center of some incredible changes and developments, including the shift from seller-focused agency representation to equal representation for both parties in a transaction, and also the beginning of real estate listings on the Internet. She plans on retiring at the end of this month.
