The United State of Women Summit, a groundbreaking event for women and supporters of the women’s movement, hosted by first lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey, took place on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. The Summit united 5,000 leaders to discuss recent achievements in gender parity and recognize the inequalities that continue burdening women today.
The Summit featured engaging seminars throughout the day centered on six topics: Economic Empowerment, Health & Wellness, Educational Opportunity, Violence Against Women, Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Leadership & Civic Engagement. Expert speakers range from leading activists and CEOs to celebrities and even President Barack Obama.
In addition to its celebration of women’s successes, the Summit focused on identifying and developing solutions to the obstacles standing in the way of true gender equality. Speakers and attendees addressed all aspects of women’s lives in the United States, from their personal lives to their careers, leaving no stone unturned in the mission to distinguish the many ways in which women continue being treated as lesser than men.
“This is a revolutionary event that NAWRB is honored to be a part of, and one whose mission we will continue fulfilling in order to promote women’s success,” said Desiree Patno, National Association of Women in Real Estate Businesses (NAWRB) Founder and CEO. “It has been our organization’s vision from day one to bring women and like-minded individuals together to highlight and eliminate gender imbalances in the workplace. By uniting these influential leaders in our country’s capital, the United State of Women Summit is creating significant change and raising the awareness necessary to ensure it remains intact.”
