Jim Rohn said, “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” Although the concept of a routine sounds boring, having one is crucial to your success. The more established your routine, the fewer choices you have to make. Fewer choices mean you can focus your time and energy on the choices that matter—the ones that drive your business. Want to create a better routine? Here’s how:
Create smart goals. The first thing to ask yourself is, what do you want to achieve? Once you identify what you want, you can create the goals that will help you get there. If you want to close more transactions, pick a target and set a goal. The point is to be as specific as possible so you have a tangible target in mind.
List the steps. If you want to reach a goal, you need a plan. Create your plan by listing the steps you’ll need to take to get you to your goal. Now, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the details at this stage. Many of us make the mistake of trying to identify the very first thing we need to do. Instead of trying to find the first step, work in reverse.
For example, let’s say you want to close 50 transactions a year. With that target in mind, you’ll figure out you’ll need to close a little over four transactions per month to reach your goal. That sounds more manageable, doesn’t it? From there, you can break this goal down further into one transaction a week. Now that you have the number of transactions you’ll need in mind, how will you generate enough leads to make it possible?
By working through the process, you’ll identify the routines you need to develop in order to reach your goals. One you see what you need to do, you can work on incorporating those routines into your daily life.
Pick your top priorities. When you think each task is as important as the next, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Instead, pick out the one or two activities or tasks that absolutely have to get done that day. Once you finish those, choose the next two tasks, and so on.
One of the top tasks to complete each day is your proactive lead generation. Whether it’s blocking an hour to 90 minutes of your morning every day for calls and notes or delivering small gifts of appreciation to your favorite clients a couple of afternoons a week, getting into the habit of consistently connecting with your clients will ensure you reach your goals.
Get a routine that will help you succeed! Success takes more than hard work; it takes focus, a plan and attention to your top priorities. This will not only help you succeed in the short term, it’ll ensure your success over the long term as well.
