Being a team leader is like being the CEO of your own business. Having defined roles, responsibilities, and accountability will lead to a thriving, successful, and productive team that works in synergy. Here are four must-haves to create harmony and success within your team:
- Clear communication. We can never assume that someone else is doing something. When this assumption is incorrect, it leads to confusion that could have been avoided with a clear form of communication. I suggest using bulleted lists with expectations and due dates that will help everyone know what is expected of them. Include deadlines and goal dates to help everyone know where they are going and when they want to get there.
- Weekly team meetings. These meetings will allow team members to discuss their recent successes and persisting challenges. You should discuss, in a collaborative manner, how to create new business and convert leads into appointments. This is also a time to brainstorm social media ideas and marketing initiatives.
- Lead by example. Help your team by leading the way. Teach them how to solve problems, keep deals together, and most importantly, keep new business. You need to clearly set expectations and hold people accountable.
- Build momentum and drive success. As a team leader and the CEO of your own business, it is your job to create successful team members. Ask them if they are hitting their goals and hold them accountable if they are not.
