All work and no play may seem like the prime way to conquer your business goals and rake in those profits but, truth is, that’s a surefire way to drain your energy and charisma, which can lead to losses in business and sales.
The key to being your best, most productive self is to schedule some self-care time into your calendar. In fact, a recent study completed by the University of Warwick in England found that happiness was directly correlated to a 12 percent spike in productivity.
The brain functions much better when you’re feeling positive—it’s science! So, don’t skimp on the fun and keep these three tips in mind for leading a healthy and balanced life that ensures your productivity skyrockets when it matters the most.
1. Relax and remember to breathe. Taking in oxygen should be an automatic function but, many times, when we’re stressed out and overworked, we find ourselves holding our breath and tensing up. Shake out those shoulders, take a deep breath in and meditate or clear your mind on a daily basis. This doesn’t have to be time-consuming, but a quick mental check-in every few hours will do wonders for your state of mind when you need to be focused and business-ready.
2. Take some personal time. For agents, schedules are often packed, leaving you no room for recreational activities or visits with friends or family. As much as you want to prioritize those client showings or that listing presentation, you’re not doing your customers any good if you’re filling your days to the brim and leaving no room to think clearly and creatively. Your clients will thank you when you can offer the best version of your services to them because you took some time to relax and unwind.
3. Have a delegation policy. Having a system in place doesn’t mean you’re planning on taking an inordinate amount of vacation every year; it simply means your business is organized and ready for anything that can happen. You often won’t realize you’re in need of some R&R until the stress hits you all at once, so, have some backup ready for when the time comes—this will keep your business running smoothly and will ensure you can take the time you need without sacrificing your client relationships and your sales.
Happiness is subjective, so only you know what you truly need in order to lead a fulfilling personal life that leads to a productive and profitable career. Get your goals in order and work your self-care habits into your calendar so you’re not pushing them aside when busy season comes rushing in.
