While many of us think of spring as the season for home maintenance, summer—with its warm weather, long days, flexible schedules and the kids out of school to pitch in—can be a great time to tackle home maintenance. Consider adding the following tasks to your to-do list this season:
Clear your gutters. While most folks pair gutter clearing with fall to-dos, mid-summer is a great time to clear any debris that may have washed in with summer or spring rains, and make way for the leaves that will likely pile in come fall.
Change your HVAC filter. Now that your HVAC system has been pumping through half the season, swap your air conditioning filter to clean out debris, dust and other allergens.
Clean behind your appliances. This is an often overlooked task, but one that’s vital for battling dust and mold build-up. Pull out your stove and fridge to clean coils, as well as the space behind them.
Patch your driveway. Is your driveway looking tired? Take advantage of the long, warm days to patch any holes or other wear and tear.
Repair those fences, porches or decks. If you have a fenced-in yard, walk the perimeter looking for broken posts or holes. Do the same with your porch or deck to keep everything primed for the end of the season.
