How to Find the Right Neighborhood in a City

Some homebuyers have the perfect neighborhood picked out years before it’s time to purchase a new house. For others, finding the right area can be a difficult process and one that certainly requires due diligence. Cities, in particular, are unique in that the neighborhood identity can quickly shift in just a few short blocks. If you’re having trouble finding the right location for your next home, here are a few tips to help guide you in the right direction.

Walk Around
The best way to get a feel for a neighborhood is simply by spending time in it. Walk around, interact with residents and take it all in. Can you picture yourself living here happily? Does it feel like home? You can usually tell when a place checks off all your boxes. If not, it’s probably best to visit a few other areas.

Signs of Energy
Luxury homebuyers living in the city usually want a neighborhood that feels vibrant and energized. Look for signs of development and a strong sense of community, like thriving businesses, busy restaurants and well-kept parks where people gather. Also, as a general rule of thumb, if there are only a few properties available, then it’s most likely a highly desirable neighborhood.

Centrally Located
Everyone wants to be centrally located, but that can mean different things to different people. For a young family, having prestigious schools nearby and an easy commute to work makes for a convenient location for your daily routine. Others, however, might want to be right in the heart of the city and surrounded by all the action.

Lifestyle Amenities
Take the time to consider what sort of lifestyle amenities you’re looking for in a community. Being a short walk away from the best bars and restaurants in the city is a true luxury that many urban dwellers can appreciate. If you’re more focused on wellness, though, you might seek out an area close to a high-end fitness club or walking and biking trails.
