Clever Organizing Strategies for Your Linens
Beautiful linen closets are a feature of every home magazine, and rarely a feature of the standard home. While you may not achieve magazine-worthy organization every day, you can get more functionality out of your closet with these clever organizing strategies for your linens.
Declutter First
A cluttered linen closet will never be organized no matter how clever your strategies may be. Before you dive into your favorite organizing tips, be sure that you cull any unnecessary items. Old linens and torn or worn towels may have no place in your home, but they can be donated to your local humane society to use for the animals.
Contain and Conquer
Ensure that your organization sticks long term. Use containers in the form of buckets or baskets to give a visually calming look, or place your items directly on the shelf and use shelf dividers to ensure that they stay in place. Remember to use labels if you plan to store your linens in opaque containers.
Use the Roll Up Method
Rolled towels aren’t just great for spas and hotels. Rolling your towels allows for easy storage, whether you want to stack your towels directly on the shelf or you would like to stash them in buckets or baskets. They also keep your closet mess-free by allowing for an easy grab-and-go option without accidentally unfolding an extra towel along the way.
Corral Toiletries
Toiletries and cleaning supplies are the easiest items to lose control over in your linen closet. Corral them in large glass containers for easy access, visual cohesion and mess-free functionality. Store cleaning supplies in moveable caddies to make cleaning (and returning your supplies) a breeze.
Grab a Sharpie
Grab a sharpie and mark the tag of your sheets. Sheet sizes can all be distinguished with a simple letter marking on the tag. Fold your sheets so the tag is visible and you won’t have to unfold anything to find what you need.
Don’t Waste the Door
Your door can be a valuable space if utilized properly. Add a closet door storage option or consider mounting a clipboard or small chalkboard to your door. These items can be used for additional storage and to keep track of any toiletry purchases that need to be made once you know you’re running low on any items. After all, an organized linen closet’s primary goal is long-term functionality and your door can provide a lot of additional use.
