Your kiddos’ little hands are always on the hunt for something to keep them busy! Why not turn playtime into a fun, interactive experience. Save your dime and have a good time with this easy, DIY playdough recipe.
This homemade playdough is super soft and gives your kiddos the freedom to mold it into whatever their imaginations desire. Customize your colors and fuel their creative spirits. You’ll just need to gather a few ingredients from around your kitchen, then it’s time to get to crafting!
What You’ll Need:
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- ¼ cup fine salt
- 1 tbsp cream of tartar
- ½ cup boiling water
- ½ tbsp of oil (canola, vegetable, coconut are your best bet)
- Food coloring of your choice
Let’s Get Crafting!
Step One: In a large bowl, stir together flour, salt and cream of tartar until fully combined. Be sure to use a bowl that will provide minimal stick.
Step Two: Make a well in the center of your dry ingredients. Fill the well with water, oil, and food coloring. Stir using a rubber spatula until it forms into a dough-like consistency. If it’s too sticky, add more flour. The dough should adhere to itself without sticking to your fingers. You can also add more food coloring to make sure it reaches the color you desire.
Step Three: Once the dough is cool enough, use your hands to knead and ensure that the flour is fully incorporated. Be sure the dough is fully cooled before your kiddos get their hands on it.
Step Four: Place the dough into plastic bags, then place the plastic bag into air-tight containers. Store at room temperature for up to three months.
